Definition

Under supervision, performs varied nonjourney level tasks; operates manual moving equipment and other less complex machinery; and performs other related work.

Typical Tasks

Moves stock or printed material to a work area according to job tag; lifts products off of production equipment lines; removes product from work area onto pallets or into boxes; inspects products for deformities; collects and removes wastepaper; sweeps and cleans floors; sorts material by destination, number, or alphabet; operates the least complex equipment such as hand material handling equipment, tying machine, or cover or plate bender; loads covers into case-in- line machine; assists higher-level bookbinders in loading heavy or awkward material onto machines; and does other related work.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Basic math.

Ability to: Communicate effectively; understand and follow directions; move and/or lift up to 50 pounds.

Special Personal Characteristics

Willingness to work under noisy conditions and on shift work; and interest in and aptitude for bindery work.
