Definition
Under direction of a Senior Geological Drafting Technician, to draft geological and similar maps and other illustrative material for publications; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
Drafts geologic, mining, and topographic maps, mineral claim maps, mineral charts, geologic cross sections, sketches, columns, and legends, block diagrams, and similar illustrative material as finished drawings for printed reports and office records; scribes negatives and uses standard mechanical drafting tools in lettering and drafting.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in geological, topographic or cartographic drafting, one year of which must have been in geological drafting. (College education with a major in geology may be substituted for two years of topographic or cartographic drafting experience on a year- for-year basis.)
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Methods, materials and equipment used in drafting and lettering maps, charts, and diagrams. Skill as a Geological Drafting Technician.
Ability to: Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; prepare geologic maps for publication; follow oral and written directions.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Education equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.
