CalHR Analyst Certificate
The series will develop competencies in the skills and techniques used in researching, organizing, analyzing, documenting, communicating, and verifying requirements. The series is comprised of classes that progressively build on your knowledge and skills. This certificate is not required to qualify for an Analyst position.
Courses:
If you are interested in the Analyst Certificate, we recommend starting with our Introduction to Analytical Skills course. This course is not part of the required Analyst Certificate Series.
The skills, tools, and concepts build on each other throughout the series. It is recommended to take these courses in the following order, but it is not required to do so.

Foundations of GenAI Series Certificate
The Foundations of GenAI Certificate is a partnership between the Office of Data and Innovation’s CalAcademy and CalHR’s CalLearns programs.
This series is tailored to all State Employees, including those at the Analyst level. These courses aim to introduce or refresh a learner’s understanding of foundational critical thinking and decision-making skills, concepts of human centered design in serving the public, and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for public service. The series covers approximately 42 hours of competency-based training.
Award of the certificate will be provided to learners through their CalLearns account upon providing proof of completion of the 5 courses within the series.
With Generative AI’s (GenAI) wide-ranging potential for Californians and the state’s economy, Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order to study the development, use, and risks of artificial intelligence (AI) technology throughout the state and to develop a deliberate and responsible process for evaluation and deployment of AI within state government.

If you are interested in the Foundations of GenAI Certificate, we recommend starting with our Completed Staff Work course.
The skills, tools, and concepts build on each other throughout the series. It is recommended to take these courses in the following order, but it is not required to do so.
To be eligible for the Foundations of GenAI Series Certificate, participants must complete the following courses:
- Completed Staff Work (CalLearns)
- Critical Thinking Tools (CalLearns)
- Data Strategies for Collecting, Analyzing, and Reporting (CalLearns)
- Introduction to Human Centered Design (CalAcademy)
- Responsible AI for Public Professionals (CalLearns)
Participants are responsible for tracking their progress throughout the Foundations of GenAI Series and providing proof of completion for all 5 course certificates in order to receive the series certificate. Course completion certificates prior to 7/1/2020 will not be accepted.
Government Leader Series Certificate
This series of 7 courses is tailored to State Managers and Executives. These courses aim to introduce or refresh leaders’ understanding of state procedures, legislation, and various aspects of leadership within the state context.
These courses do not substitute the state-mandated initial training requirements for CEAs and Managers specified in Government Code 19995.4 (CA Leadership Academy). Rather, they are meant to supplement the content covered in the CA Leadership Academy courses.
Participants must complete these courses through CalLearns to be eligible for the Government Leader Series Certificate. We do not accept certificates classes booked directly through vendors.

If you are interested in the Government Leader Series, and receiving a certificate for completing the series, you must complete the following 7 courses through CalLearns. There is no set order for these courses, and may be taken in any order.
Participants are responsible for tracking their progress throughout the Government Leader Series and providing proof of completion for all 7 course certificates in order to receive the completion of series certificate.
