Effective Aug. 1, 2025, the maximum allowable amount for the 25-Year State Service and Retirement Awards has been increased from $125 to $165.
This adjustment reflects the rise in inflation since the last increase and is made in accordance with Government Code section 19849.9(b), which authorizes CalHR to update the limit every five years based on the average rate of inflation.
What This Means:
- Departments may now authorize awards of up to $165 for eligible employees who reach 25 years of state service or retire with 25+ years of state service (completion of 300 months of qualified state service).
- The cost of the award continues to be a proper charge against the department’s support appropriation.
- The updated limit ensures agencies can continue providing meaningful, quality recognition for long-serving employees.
