Selection Analyst Training Certification Cohort


The CalHR Selection Analyst Training Certification Cohort offers a project based comprehensive curriculum for the development of selection professionals. The classes offered provide essential content and selection techniques to ensure competency upon program completion.


The Cohort goals include, but are not limited to providing:

  • Targeted selection analyst relevant training courses to enable certification of new selection analyst professionals in state service
  • Training deemed critical to successful performance of job-related duties performed by selection professionals in state service
  • Prioritized and organized courses to maximize information retention, ease of learning, and efficient and effective training


The coursework provides state selection professionals with fundamentally sound, legally defensible, innovative means of performing selection-related work in addition to in-depth instruction on a variety of selection-related topics.

The Cohort consists of 8 comprehensive courses which include 6 instructor-led core courses, 2 instructor-led elective courses, and 1 Culminating Experience class. Upon successful program completion, participants will receive a Selection Analyst Training Certification acknowledging completion of certification requirements at a formal graduation program.

These courses are fundamental for all Selection Analysts as they provide participants with a foundation of professional guidance in the area of Selections.

  • 9/12/2019 - Subject Matter Expert (SME) Meeting Facilitation
  • 9/18 - 19/2019 - Job Analysis
  • 9/25/2019 - Examination Administration
  • 10/17/2019 - Pass Point Setting and Scoring Models
  • 10/24 - 25/2019 - Evaluating Minimum Qualifications
  • 11/6/2019 - Culminating Experience
  • 11/13/2019 - Cohort Graduation

Start time for all classes is 8:30AM and end time is 4:30PM.


Participants are required to select two elective courses to gain additional competencies applicable to the selection process. There are five elective courses available. Electives may be taken at any time during the duration of the Cohort provided pre-requisites have been satisfied.

  • Developing Structured Interviews
  • Developing, Using and Evaluating Written Examinations
  • Chairing Interview Examinations
  • Methods of Assessing Training & Experience
  • Work Samples and Performance Tests

Cost: $2,250 per participant. The completed and signed Selection Analyst Training Certification Cohort Agreement must be turned in at Cohort Orientation on 9/11/19. Please check back regularly for seat availability as cancellations do occur.
