Best Practices for Performance Appraisals and Individual Development Plans (IDP)

Overview

This course provides best practices on how a manager or supervisor can effectively execute the employee’s performance appraisal and IDPs. An in-depth review of the difference and purpose of the performance appraisal and IDP will be presented. Participants will gain knowledge on documenting employee performance in the period preceding the performance appraisal, drafting the performance appraisal, IDP, and presenting the performance appraisal and/or IDP to the employee.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the appropriate usage of a performance appraisal and IDP.
  • Recognize the benefits and impacts of performance appraisals.
  • Apply documentation tools to support the performance appraisal.
  • Practice conducting an effective performance appraisal summary conversation.
  • Reference Government Codes and bargaining contracts guiding the performance appraisals and IDPs.
