Definition
Under direction, in a leadperson capacity, to work with a group of security guards assigned to guard and protect State property; and to do other related work.
Typical Tasks
In a leadperson capacity, works with a group of security guards assigned to guard and protect State buildings, equipment, and property; plans the organization of shift assignments and post coverage and assigns work schedules; acts as a liaison between the security guard force and other law enforcement personnel; coordinates the security guard activities with the public use of the various facilities; trains security guard personnel, evaluates their performance, and takes or recommends appropriate action; checks property for unauthorized persons; prevents damage to State property; investigates unusual conditions; enforces various regulations; and writes reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Either I
One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Security Guard.
Or II
Experience: Two years of experience in the guarding and protection of private or public property. and
Education: Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: Property security measures; principles of effective supervision.
Ability to: Supervise the work of security guards; interpret and enforce regulations with firmness and tact; work with the public and other law enforcement agencies; write clear and concise reports; analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
Special Personal Characteristics
Willingness to work at night and to report for duty at any time emergencies may arise; demonstrated leadership ability; normal vision and hearing.
