In this course participants will learn how to effectively complete a Duty Statement that is compliant with the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Participants will develop strategies for writing or revising duty statements using a "who does what" language model, as well as be able to identify an employee's essential job functions and the expected job performance.


As a result of attending this class, participants will:

  • Have knowledge of key elements for a complete duty statement.
  • Know how to differentiate essential and marginal functions.
  • Write clear and concise task statements.
  • Be able to differentiate between the various levels within civil service classifications and integrate appropriate task within duty statements.
  • Have the ability to identify and apply resources effectively.
