Overview

Can you really say that at work? Presented by CalHR Legal Division House Counsel: This class will provide an overview of First Amendment protections related to the public sector workforce, as well as frequently asked questions related to issues such as the use of social media, political speech, off duty conduct, and protected concerted activity. We will discuss the basic law using examples from real cases, and will provide guidance for enforcement of existing department policies affected by these issues such as EEO and minimal and incidental use policies – specifically related to public sector employees.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to understand the First Amendment as it applies to public sector employees.

Supervisors, Managers, and Human Resources staff.
