Presented by CalHR Legal Division House Counsel: This class provides an overview of the how to manage performance throughout the three phases of progressive discipline and the discipline process. It addresses the supervisors' responsibilities during the hiring and onboarding process, and the supervisor’s responsibility for setting expectations, training, evaluating, and mentoring staff to ensure performance consistent with job requirements and expectations and it familiarizes the supervisor with the adverse action process. This seminar is designed to complement the online CalHRs’ Supervisors Guide to Addressing Poor Performance and Virtual Help Desk for Supervisors and Managers.
Provide participants information, guidance, and resource tools to assist them in the hiring and onboarding process and with setting expectations, mentoring, encouraging, and training employees, implementing the three phases of progressive discipline, and understanding the formal adverse action process.
This class is open to State employees in the Executive Branch. Managers, Supervisors, Human Resources and Labor Relations staff who are involved in or require knowledge of the progressive discipline process. Employees from multiple areas of a department are encouraged to attend as a team so that everyone has the same understanding of performance management.
