Training Registration

Click the title of a class to see all available sessions with time, date, and locations. Choose a session or sessions, and fill out the form below to register. You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of registering. Please note: sessions that are full may continue to appear up until the date the event takes place.

Overview

The Benefits Administration Training Class is intended s for new staff responsible for administering state employee benefits. The class provides an overview of numerous benefit programs through scenario based classroom training.

If your department has specific training needs, we want to hear from you. Please email your inquiry to BAMTraining@calhr.ca.gov.

Objectives

Participants will learn and understand the fundamentals of health, dental, vision, retiree vision, CoBen, FlexElect reimbursement accounts, health and dental cash options, common carrier insurance, group term life insurance, long-term disability, retirement processing, and COBRA.

Upon completion of the class, participants will be able to:

  • Explain benefit programs to departmental employees and respond to inquiries.
  • Process benefit changes due to employee permitting events.
  • Identify and resolve common errors in benefits administration.

Intended Audience

The training is intended for new:

  • Personnel transactions staff
  • Attendance clerks
  • Benefits coordinators
  • All other new staff working in personnel offices who provide benefit information to state employees

Cost

There is no cost to attend this class. You must go through your department's training request process to obtain the necessary approvals to attend class on State time. If you do not attend class or send a substitute, you will be charged a “no-show” fee of $310. However, there is no “no show” fee for webcast training. If you are not able to attend the class for which you have registered, please e-mail your cancellation request to training@calhr.ca.gov two weeks prior to the registered class. When sending a substitute, be sure to send someone based on the description as noted under the “Intended Audience”

If you need a special accommodation, you may send your requests to training@calhr.ca.gov three weeks prior to the class.
