Definition

Under direction of the Supervising Cosmetology Examiner, administers and grades practical performance examinations for the licensing of electrologists; and does other related work.

Typical Tasks

Administers and grades practical performance examinations to test applicants for licenses to engage in the practice of electrology; makes recommendations to the Barbering and Cosmetology Program and Office of Examination Resources regarding the development, administration, and grading of the practical performance examinations; and prepares reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a current valid electrology license.

 

Experience: Either

 

1. One year of experience in the administration of practical performance examinations. or

 

2. Two years of experience as an instructor in a public or private school of electrology. or

 

3. Three years of practical experience as a licensed electrologist in the State of California within the past five years. or

 

4. Any combination of the above.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: Methods, practices, and terminology of electrology, and of the material used in the electrology industry; laws, rules, and regulations that apply to the practice of electrology; organization and activities of the Barbering and Cosmetology Program; principles and techniques of constructing and grading subjective examinations and preparing practical performance examination material.

 

Ability to: Determine the qualifications necessary for licensure as an electrologist; prepare reports; establish and maintain cooperative relations with organizations and members of the electrology industry; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.

Additional Desirable Qualification

Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Fluency in writing and speaking a language other than English.
