Introduction to Analytical Skills

Overview

Being an analyst can be intimidating; often you are thrown into analytical work without adequate training. Even worse, you may have to “learn” on the job, without knowing what to do. This two-day course is designed to provide you with an overview of analytical staff work and introduces the skill of researching. It prepares you for the challenges of analytical work and how you can build an analytical career.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the role of the analyst
  • Apply the basic skills required to be a successful analyst
  • Practice assignments typically given to state analysts
  • Evaluate their interest and skill level in performing analytical work through the use of a diagnostic instrument

Intended Audience

Any aspiring analyst (staff member who wishes to promote to the analytical series), new Staff Services Analyst (SSA), or related analytical series will benefit from this class.
